Online audition appointment sign-ups and an online audition form
are available and should be completed prior to in-person auditions.

Walk-ins will be accepted if time permits, but the online form *must* be completed to be considered for callbacks. There will be no virtual auditions for this production. Paper resumes are not required, but there is an option to upload electronic file theater/performing resumes, and to paste selected content from a resume into the online application in the
appropriate field.

For this audition, please come prepared to perform 2-3 short comedic speeches or monologues from other plays or other sources of your choosing. These should be no more than around 1 minute each in length each, or 3 minutes total. These should be chosen to show your performance range and skills, and include elements of comedic delivery and
physicality with different characters and – potentially – different voices or manners of speaking. You may have these scripts with you during the audition, but they should not distract from your ability to perform as you would on stage during a show, to enable us to better understand your sense of expression, action, and movement while delivering your chosen
speeches.

After performing your speeches/monologues, you may also be asked to do some cold reads of selected character speeches from this play’s script, which will be provided for you at the audition. You will have the opportunity to briefly review each before performing it. After completing your audition, you will not be required to stay further, but may remain in the small lobby if waiting for a ride or other performer.

Age Requirements:
Auditions are limited to actors aged 15+ at the time of their audition. Minors will be required to provide contact information for a parent or guardian when submitting their audition form, who will also need to consent for the minor to be part of the production. Minors may be accompanied to auditions by a parent or guardian. Auditions are closed, but parents/guardians may wait to receive them after their audition is complete.

Roles:
This play contains over 50 different roles, most of which are only on stage for individual scenes. The majority of actors cast will be playing 2-4 roles each in the show, and an expected cast size of 15-20 actors. The actors cast as Milo, Tock, and Humbug will play a single role. There will be an effort by the Production Team to ensure that all actors cast beyond those three roles have a mixture of speaking and non-speaking parts, as some scenes have several non-speaking characters. The specific doubling, tripling, or quadrupling in casting decisions will be based on a combination of the requirements of the script and the strengths of the specific actors cast.
The majority of roles in this production are not age or gender specific, with the exception of Milo, the Kings of Digitopolis and Dictionopolis and the Princesses of Rhyme and Reason. The lead character of Milo (depicted in the story as a boy ca. age 10) is for this production best suited to a male (presenting) actor, younger in either actual age (but 15+ for this production) or ability to convey youthfulness. Understudies or swings may be considered for the three lead roles (Milo, Tock, Humbug), who may also be offered potential smaller ensemble roles.
Casting decisions will be based on a review of all actors who auditioned and which actors are best-suited to which roles in the production. Actors experienced in playing multiple roles in a single show and doing quick changes should highlight this in their application materials. As the story largely takes place in an imaginary world full of humorous wordplay and eccentric characters, creative comedic acting, physicality, timing, and sense of whimsy will be important skills to demonstrate, noting that some roles are ‘serious’ yet may still be potentially played for comedic effect.
